APRIL 23, 2008 - COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN DOCTOR ACHIEVES COVETED STATUS

Dr. Daniel Shanahan, founder and owner of Lakes Foot & Ankle Associates in Commerce Township, Michian was recently awarded the Gold Seal by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). By achieving this Gold Seal, Dr. Shanahan's office, along with Lakes SurgiCare Center at the same location, is recognized as having full accreditation by the Joint Commission, an honor usually reserved only for hospitals.

In fact, Dr. Shanahan is the ONLY foot and ankle specialist in Southeast Michigan to have received this esteemed designation.

When asked why he chose to pursue this extremely difficult goal, Dr. Shanahan stated, "I wanted to provide our patients with an elite level of care and safety that would parallel that of a hospital." Dr. Shanahan continued, "The staff at Lakes Foot & Ankle Associates worked incredibly hard to obtain this accreditation by the Joint Commission, and they are proud to be a part of the only Podiatry office in the metro Detroit area that has received this honor."

Dr. Trevor Neal, co-chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association, released this statement regarding Dr. Shanahan's achievement, "Dr. Shanahan has shown to the medical community and, most importantly, to his patients, that his dedication to providing the finest quality podiatric surgical care by his achievement of JCAHO accredited status, and his patients can depend on him to so the same for them."

To the patients of Dr. Shanahan, this accreditation means that his is the only facility of its kind in the area to have completed the incredibly rigorous JCAHO inspection process that includes examination of over 150 details related to patient safety and protection. this is especially important because patients can now undergo sedation-based foot and ankle surgery in a very personal, intimate, one-on-one atmosphere, and not spend as much time and money dealing with the sometimes intimidating hospital procedures.
